Today it just hit me that the loft is super tiny when it comes to my work space. So from here on out my work is going to suffer big time unless I figure out a way to still work on things I need to with out having to travel and move everything back and forth. Moving downtown is not going be saving me any on gas money… bummer.
I never wanted to be a body painter I wanted to be a makeup fx artist and work on movies. I fell into being a body painter and Im okay at it. Im not the best but I’m alright for where I’m at. It pays my bills and lets me live a better life than working for 8 dollars at some store in the mall. There are times that I hate it though. I’ve become really jaded at looking a nude models. Any other body painter would probably agree, its a job and it happens so often you just don’t think about it anymore. But who do I get the most grief from….. straight males and now my girlfriend. I’ll go ahead and start my rant with most males of the world. Gotcha I have a neat job standing a painting chicks but you know what I’m an adult and I can handle it. Not to sound full of it but its like being a doctor, after you’ve seen one body you’ve seen them all sort of thing. Yes all bodies are not the same and yes I know which bodies are going to sell my product in a picture. That product being me the artist. But I always run into meat head guys that just think have the most awesome job in the world! “Wow you get to paint naked chick all the time!” No I don’t thats just a part of what I do. So I just smile and play the part and act like yes I’m the luckiest guy ever. When no I’m not, painting bodies can sometimes be a pain in the ass and be a lot of work, theres no retirement fund, theres no insurance. But because I have boobs in my face I’m the king of the world.
Now its stupid hard to be in a relationship when you’re a body painter….why? Because we’re humans and jealousy is a big part of everyone. I’ve been doing this since 2003 but I’ve had to take breaks in the past because it would cause a disagreement in a relationship. I feel those breaks were for far too long and I could probably be more skilled if I didn’t let some girl get in the way of what I wanted to do. Guess what body paint is a novelty and it pays the bills. The argument is I pamper the models more than I do my girlfriend when she gets painted. Its also been pointed out that everyone else can see that Im pampering them more. Well you know what yes Im treating theses models and “models” super nice for many different reasons. First off its a comfort thing and trying to be professional. Being naked for art is a very awkward position and you want to make sure your model is comfortable. Unless your working a big corporate event theres usually little to no money for the model. Sometimes its come out of my pocket. So if I’m being really nice to someone for getting painted it could be… oh hey the club is paying them really shitty but they want to use this person again next month for the same shitty pay. Rudy make them feel like they are a star so they’ll come back and work for the club.
But then theres being super nice and pampering a model because they’re coming out to an event or a shoot because they’re helping you out. They know theres no pay in it and the only thing they’re getting is a fun time or the chance to get some awesome pics. So you know what yes Im going to try to show my appreciation by being polite, providing food and drinks. You need to take a smoke break… sure. You need to sit down.. okay. But you know what thats fine because these people are taking time out of their lives to let you paint them. Yes Im going to pamper as much as possible. But no it to much for anyone that Im in a relationship to understand that simple concept.
Cool beans the production of doll factory is done using my home as a location for one of the scenes in their movie. It was pretty neat having a crew coming in and watching them make a movie. Everyone was very nice and very professional. Tomorrow they come back in and put my house back to the way they found it.
Today and tomorrow I have a local movie maker shooting scenes for his horror movie in the living room of my house. I have to clean the place and move things I don’t want moved by someone else. Plus I have an event tonight, I’m a bit nervous for that one. Its the first time I get to be a performer in a long long time. The last time I was a costumed performer was in 2005-06 as wolverine for kids parties. lol
Tonight I’ve been booked as a cirque stroll around performer. I’ll be walking around with with an albino python!
Yeah thats right model in quotations cause you know exactly what that means! Ha! So today I attended a photography workshop hosted by a very talented Photographer from Houston. The concept was simple come “Who I am” which as simple as that sounds it really a fantastic idea!!! I allows the models to come as them selves and really have fun with who they are, where they come from, what they like to do. A lot of workshops now a days are themed and the model has to stay within certain confines of that theme. So this theme rocked and could have led to so many ideas!!!! Did I mention that this event was handed on a Sliver Platter to a ton of models and “models” in Houston!!! This is my opinion when it comes to would be models….When a great photographer rents out a space with their own money to offer free pics for you plus the opportunity, nay the privilege to pose and think out of the box…. take it. There are about a billion models born everyday thanks to the camera phone, and all these models don’t know proper etiquette when it comes to photoshoots. They think that photographers have all the time in the world just waiting to take a picture of you. Look photographers work too! They have bills too! So when they’re willing to give you their time and experience so you have something pretty to pop on Facebook take it!!! Now I’m not talking about the men and women that actually make a living modeling or use the photos they take to further another career, like actors, or artistic performers. Im talking about people that just want cool pictures to put of the FB to brag that they’re something they’re not.
Look its cool if you just want great pics and your just modeling for the fun of it as long as your not a flake. Appreciate the time it takes someone else to get you a great photo! Todays event went great! But it could have been epic if had not been for the flakes. I want to thank the host Tara for putting it on and the wonderful photographers that showed up to give their time and creativity. But a big shout out to to those few models that planned ahead and really thought about the concept “Who I am” you guys were fucking rockstars today. We had it all today from Ravers to Power Rangers, Schoolgirls to Statues.
As for the billion or so that didn’t show up….. You guys had a lot of time to prepare and plan. Tara gave everyone enough time to schedule this event in their Calendars. So next time be honest don’t confirm if your really not going to show, or if you changed your mind at least tell the truth or think about your excuse. All Im saying is it started to look really fishy when everyones excuse were the same two. My car or My Boss just called. If you were actually having car problems Im sorry for the above rant, if your work called then I understand Im an artist and I have bills too. But come on to everyone else! The odds of a large group all having car or work is kinda rare. Or perhaps the theme was taken to literal. ”Who I am” cause today a lot of you came as Flakes.
Thank you for reading my Rant! Sorry if I offended anyone but I needed to get that out. My next rant will be titled Flake… Thy name is MUA.
Which will begin now! If your an Mua and you come out to a workshop, don’t just do some makeup and take off. What kind of crap is that? You leave expecting pictures but don’t stop to think that the models may need to be touched up. Models sweat folks, they also have the habit of licking off all the lip gloss off their lips, they like to touch there face. Unfortunately not all Models can do their own makeup that why your there. I can’t stand it when a makeup artist does a couple of faces and then takes off. Model takes some pics and and make need to be touched up but there no one around to help her so two things happen she tries to fix it herself but doesn’t have the exact makeup that was used on her and makes things worse. Then you see it. A look in there eyes that their heart just sank. They know they just messed up their badass makeup, so know they have to throw in the towel and the day is over they have to make due with the pics they got. Or the second thing that happens is the Mua leaves and the model just rolls with the punches as the makeup starts to wear. With each outfit change the new set of photos starts to look a little rough, which then puts the photographer in a situation. Should they give the model photos where the makeup starts looking bad or spend time photoshopping every picture? I’m tired now I’ll continue with this one later….
If you know me then you know im always on the hunt for a great deal for an airbrush gun or compressor. After months of a dryspell on craigslist I’ve found a good deal this week. Im on my way to get a new Iwata Revolution airbrush that I found on craigslist. At one hell of a price! Woot!
